You've probably heard about the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea that has claimed more than four thousand lives and that large international authorities are still struggling to contain.  You may not have heard, however, about little people and efforts like ours that our working to meet the needs created by the Ebola epidemic that international aid doesn't cover, such as basic hospital supplies, food shortages due to quarantine and the needs of orphans whose parents have died from the disease.

Before this outbreak we were three organizations working towards separate goals in Sierra Leone; the Sierra Leone Watershed Project Foundation (SLWPF)  was providing potable water in rural areas of the country, Mamawa Inc. was empowering women and children in Kenema and the Freetown Fashpack Blog was focused the important issue of documenting the most fashion forward outfits in Freetown.  Like the people we serve, Ebola forced us to stop our ordinary operations and focus on preventing its spread and ameliorating its effects.  Our three organizations joined forced to launch four day fundraiser last August in which we raised $4000 to provide medical, clothing and food supplies to the Kenema Government Hospital while they awaited international assistance.  They received the supplies within the same week that funds were raised and the staff and patients were very grateful.

Thankfully more medical assistance has arrived since our last drive, but in the meantime the number of children orphaned by ebola is steadily increasing, leaving Sierra Leone's fragile social welfare systems overwhelmed.   In response we have launched a new campaign where we ask you to bid on items donated by other generous hearts and we will use %100 of the proceeds to buy food, clothing, educational materials/supplements, shelter and care for children in Sierra Leone who have become orphans due to the Ebola outbreak.  Mamawa Inc and SLWPF are 501 c 3 not for profit organizations, all donations are tax deductible.
